I had the original GuildWars game but uninstalled it quite a while ago and when I went to install it the disk was too badly damaged (thanks to my puppy), so I threw it away.

Now I see the Nightfall box on the shelf in the store and it looks interesting enough to me to pick it up, however Im wondering if I need the original GuildWars to be able to use it. I wouldnt mind spending the $50 on Nightfall but I dont really care to go and buy the original game (another $50) AND Nightfall.

So maybe someone here can just tell me, Do I need the original GuildWars game to be able to play the Nightfall game?

No you don't.

If you remember your username/password for the original GW, you can log in and add the Nightfall account to your Prophecies account. This would allow your old characters to cross into Nightfall and any new characters you create to cross backwards etc.

You won't need the disc, you can download the client from www.guildwars.com . Just login with your old username and password, and you will update to the newest files for whatever chapters you have unlocked.

You don't even need the CD to play the original guild wars as long as you have the account info. The client can be downloaded on www.guildwars.com

But yes, even if you don't have a GWP (original GW) account you can buy GWN and make a new account. It is standalone. But I would suggest to merge the GWP account with your GWN key if you buy it.

EDIT: Thanks again, thankfully the game let me reset my password and I must have signed up in the past 2.5 years since it accepted my email address as being valid, so I'm downloading the original game now and am off to go to the store to buy Nightfall before the store closes tonight.
